The question
The client wanted to grow its refurbished-device business and bid for public and private tenders that ask for documented environmental performance. Without audit-ready life-cycle data, the refurbished range could not meet green public procurement criteria or support a price premium.
What we did
- A carbon footprint method for refurbished devices, aligned with ISO 14067 and consistent with the GHG Protocol Product Standard, covering raw materials, refurbishment, transport, reuse and end of life.
- Automated data flows from research and development, data science, supply chain, operations and marketing, so that each figure traces back to its source.
- Integration into the configure-price-quote system: sales teams issue a carbon-savings certificate with each refurbished-device quote.
- Support for the first bid under green public procurement criteria, then roll-out to the European and North American business units, adapted to local supply chains and rules.
What changed
- A winning bid for a major public procurement contract, supported by the method.
- Refurbished products that stand out in a commoditised hardware market on audit-ready carbon data.
- Data pipelines that give a repeatable base for Scope 3 accounting and future product-level traceability rules.
